Countdown to Nevermind.

One of the greatest gifts an artist can have is a thick skin. In some ways this is even more important than talent, simply because even if you don’t have talent, you can still be out there doing your thing without worry of people “not getting it” or “not liking it”. No wonder some of these child stars wind up so crazy and whacked out on drugs. Without guidance from someone they trust, being in the limelight is a crazy-making experience with many people wanting something from you and that something usually isn’t to your benefit.

Now that I’m putting myself back out for public consumption again, the familiar stress of waiting to be figuratively stoned to creative death looms again until I can settle my nerves again and just get back into the flow of doing. It takes a little bit to adjust to the new temperature, but I’ll get there.

In the meantime, I will probably begin putting together my set for August 1st together. It’s a 15 minute set and will include a good amount of the material that I’m using for my next taping on “Spending A Little Time With Poetry”. I’m working on some new stuff, but I don’t think any of that will be ready in time. These are some longer form pieces for me. And yes, there’s a bit of that stress with these pieces as well since these new pieces are being set to music to begin with, but will sometimes be performed acapella. I’m sure by the time they’re done though, I’ll be settled back into my state of blissful “nevermind what I think others might think”. The countdown continues…
